The silence of the night was broken last eve by the sounds of Legionaires with the duty of patrolling the woodlands to the south of Kiran marching through the small village and towards the eastern blockade. The Legion Commander gave no actual indication of why to avoid panic, simply informing the unit of legionaires that they were to "replace" the sixth patrol, one of the many units under the 22nd Division of the Pheric Legion, Commander Kard Rift's Division. The group of soldiers was shortly after followed by Jacob "Crow," Nicholas Lancer, Roffo Balthazar, and Stella, four seeming adventurers who were present at the time.
It was not until later that eve that the cries of dying legionaires could be heard, small explosions came from beyond the barricade, and the nightmare which all feared from the Zombie attacks of the past few months came true. As it seems, the sixth patrol had been camped along the Road of Kira when they were attacked in the middle of the night by one or more of the undead. Soon the entire camp was one of these creatures, save one survivor who yet remains in a state of shock, and has not yet been able to answer questions. The Legionaires did not know how to use their weapons or shields, but being armed in Legionaire issued armor, were still well defended. The night was long, and by the end the people of Kiran knew of what was going on, especially once the corpse pyres began lighting along the Road of Kira, and some in the town square right otuside the barracks for those who were greviously injured and died while be tended in the barracks.
It was not the legion which repelled the final waves of these abominations however, preventing them from reaching the village walls. Rather, it was a giant hole which formed behind the barricade, which all of the attacking undead fell into. The hole later exploded as the Legion surrounded it, preparing for the final battle of the night, and all the undead were assumed to have been incinerated by the blast. As for what caused the explosion, reports are still sketchy at best as to what actually took place, but it would seem that the four adventurers had fallen into the hole during the battle, and were met with what they called a Zombie Ignisite. It is assumed that if the zombie blood explodes, and an Ignisite is a creature which turns heat into a lava-like liquid, that this likely caused a reaction that ended in the explosion, though the adventurers have yet to tell the full tale of their night.
The count at the end of the night was 248 Legionaires dead, 46 Legionaires unaccounted for, 112 Legionaires injured, and one of the Pheric Legion's last Ignisites was destroyed.
Early this morning however, the Mayor called a town meeting. For those who missed such a meeting, his words were written by the town scribe and posted on the inn. The following is that posting.
"Citizens of Kiran, it's with a heavy heart I adress you all this morning. Chances are you have all heard stories and rumors of what occured last eve. I'll not go into detail, but to set the record straight for all of you, the undead dealt a devestating blow to the legion and the barricade. I have however recieved assurances from the High Lord himself that some of Pherin's finest herbalists and clerics, with help from the Order of Librarians, will be looking into a solution to end this problem as soon as possible. I am told that no undead did not breach the second Quarentine leading into New Pherin, and as such the Legion is still fully capable of keeping the undead at bay until the solution is found. I am sorry to cut this so short, but there are matters to be discussed with Commander Rift concerning last night, excuse me, and be safe."
