Jylia (Intermediate Goddess) The Librarian, Loresmaster of Secrets, The Traveler’s Guide Symbol: Leather bound book with silver markings upon the cover Alignment: Neutral Good Portfolio: Knowledge, Secrets, Inspiration, Bards/Scribes, Travel Domains: Knowledge, Travel, Luck, Good Favored Weapon: “Bookmark” (a silken sash/whip)
Jylia (ju-lE-‘E) is the patron goddess of knowledge and travel, as the two go hand in hand, in Fenmyr. A kind and helpful being that is able to take a joke, even though sometimes she is lonely with her duties. She has been known to save adventurers and travelers from death while traveling through the Dead Lands but this tends to come with a price – that being to usually take a specific document to a protected enclave of the Librarians. The number of her faithful are once again on the rise with the discovery of lost lores being found in the Dead Lands.
The clergy of Jylia are all members of the Order of the Librarian, people whose duty is to map, discover, and document all things relating to Fenmyr. Few temples exist outside the scattered enclaves found about the Dead Lands, but one can often find a shrine in honor of Jylia in well-traveled areas. The traveling members of the clergy often hold festivals near cities in order to try to inspire others to take up the bardic arts, such as singing, as well as to travel and see all that Fenmyr has to offer to those who thirst for knowledge or the pleasure of a journey. Those that remain to man the enclaves usually sell maps, which are as most up to date as possible at the time, spell scrolls, magical items to assist in traveling comfort, musical instruments, and various other things.
Clerics of Jylia pray at sunrise or noon for spells. The church celebrates two holy days and two specific events and those are the Feast of Saints, the First Step, the Offer of Knowledge, and the Faire of Erudition. The Feast of Saints is a large festival like holy day where the church celebrates all famous “good” saints that once dwelt in Fenmyr and spreads the tales of their deeds. The First Step is an annual holy day where all worshippers of Jylia make a pledge to start a journey, of which they must do by the year’s end. The Offer of Knowledge is a requirement of the clergy of Jylia - they must offer at least four articles of knowledge to the church each year. Finally, the Faire of Erudition, the name for the festivals held throughout the year near the various cities, where games, stories, and much more are shared. Jylia’s clerics tend to multiclass as bards or wizards.
History/Relationships:[/b]
Jylia is a deity in service of Rhion, the patron of the Elves and good magic, though the two get along quite well. Jylia was once a mortal Shadowluren Elven female, an explorer of moderate fame, who discovered much of the swallowed up history of Fenmyr after the Ark of Quain incident. Life was good for Jylia, who had a large family and a daughter who was entering the clergy of Rhion but this was to change drastically. While exploring a crypt in the Dead Lands, one that was said to house the remains of an Emperor of Sol, she discovered a map detailing the location of a strange dagger. Curious she took it with her and exited the crypt only to come face to face with Arkelon, who wasted no time gutting her and taking her belongings including the map to the dagger leaving her to die of her wounds, as it was obvious he knew what was there and its uses. As she began to pass beyond a voice whispered to her, offering her a means to continue learning, she accepted to the voice’s offer and became a divine being, a Demi-God. For several decades she grew slowly in power and eventually had asborbed the power of the deity of Travel, Gusan. She inherited the portfolio of the prior deity of Travel, boosting her from a Demi-God to a lesser deity and from there has obtained the faithful to go to her current state of power. She counts Rhion, Adonis, and Cahn as her closest allies while she loathes Arkelon, Fiangon, and Krasia.
Dogma:[/b]
Knowledge is a powerful thing whose very essence can move mountains but it must be safeguarded from hands that would exploit without keeping it hidden from those who would not. Explore every step of the journey of life, find inspiration in the smallest of things as life is never boring if this is done and sponsor others so they can experience it as well. If able always teach those who ask how to read and write, to express themselves fully. Aid those who you can, as someday they may return the favor.
