Vosauho[/size] (derived from the words Vos, Dutch, and Fauho, Gothic, for Fox)[/b]
The Vosauho are a race of Humanoid Vulpes, in other words a race of Fox-Men that originated in the great Sillilnyme Forest, but their range is extremely wide, rivaling Humans’, including various islands of the five seas and the Desert of Ice. Their total population is likely about a sixth the total Human population; though in terms of how often one might be seen is likely one to every one hundred Humans. Male Vosauho are usually referred to as a Todd or Reynard when they are not properly introduced while female Vosauho are normally called a Vixen, a Kit is what young Vosauho are called and a group of Vosauho is a Skulk – this is of course used primarily when they are not known by the speaker. It is not sure how old their race exactly is, but it is believed they have existed since the Golden Slumber in ages long forgotten, to the other races that dwell upon Fenmyr it seems as the Vosauho have always existed and most likely will always exist to some extent. As with every other race upon the face of Fenmyr, they too suffered a horrific blow at the hands of the Ark of Quain incident it is unknown how many of their numbers were taken but it seems to have little long term affect upon their species unlike the loss the Elves suffered. They are wary of relations with most races, often only coming into contact with non-Vosauho for trade or work – it is rare to see a Vosauho, especially a Vixen, willingly traveling with non-Vosauho for extended periods of time.
Physically the Vosauho are a race of biped canid humanoids, covered in usually a two toned colored fur from head to toe. Their muzzles come to a point and are adorned by whiskers, males having slightly longer ones than females, and they are known to have a tail with a bushy tip. Their ears tend to be pointed and rimmed in black fur, the length of the ears are normally on the slightly long side. Vosauho fur normally has a silky texture and is soft to the touch, when properly kept, and its length is dependent on season – the Vosauho shed large amounts of fur in the late spring and early summer months until the start of winter where their coat thickens greatly to accommodate for their normal lack of clothing. The coloration of their fur ranges from a light brown to an oranges-like red and this seems dependent on their surroundings, most Vosauho have the ability to change their coat coloration after a spending a full season in one particular region. The eyes of a Vosauho tend to be yellowish green to a deep gold in coloration and have a vertical pupil slit, almost similar to a domestic housecat and due to this, the Vosauho have excellent night vision. Every Vosauho has between forty and forty-five teeth, of which over ninety percent are extremely sharp – they are known to leave terrible bleeding wounds when used as weapons against attackers. All Vosauho have a noticeable scent to them thanks to a scent gland located in their tails, the smell is similar to that of a violet flower but stronger; this fragrance can be overpowering to some though not everyone, especially older Humans, can detect the smell. The Vosauho also have powerful legs which allow them to run speeds easily twice that of a Human, and if times of life and death, a Vosauho can potentially reach speeds as fast as forty-five miles per hour by running on all fours, much like their feral ancestors, though no self-respecting Vosauho will do this unless it is in such dire situations as life and death. The height of an adult male Vosauho ranges normally from 5’5” to 6’ while adult females tend to be 4’11” to 5’8” and Kits are about the size of Human children their age.
The Vosauho are a race of highly intelligent sentient beings, their intelligence rival Humans in most cases. Strong and independently minded, most Vosauho are capable of spending much of their lives alone or away from other Vosauho where unlike Humans and other sentient races, the Vosauho can survive alone for extended periods of time without succumbing to feelings of depression and such. Despite the presence of many Dens throughout Fenmyr and the existence of many cities and towns, many Vosauho prefer the simpler life of solitude and will go to extremes to obtain it. Though all Vosauho come together at some point in their lives to mate at least once, normally forming monogamous relationships with one of the opposite sex. If the mating is successful the female will give birth to usually two Kits and the family, referred to as a Skulk, will stay together until the Kits are old enough to enter the world on their own, between sixteen and eighteen years. A Skulk often is located nowhere around other Skulks, however, when more than one Skulk appears in an area they may join together to form a Den, a Den is a Vosauho town. A Den has its own government, and runs fairly similar to any other race’s town – this is the exception to the norm in the way that the Vosauho of a Den often prefer it to the life of solitude and is where polygamous relations often form.
