-Beast Races- (a selection, those we used in NWN1)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fate of the Sileon:
The Sileon were a race of quadruped beings that have the body of a lion and the torso of a humanoid with a lion-like head, they would appear similar to a Wemic from the Shaar. They appear to be very strong and often strangely beautiful creatures, especially when set in their native lands. Usually they appear various shades earthen tones except some shades of blonde and black for their fur as well as the exclusive silver that tends to only rarely show up in the ice lands of the south of Fenmyr. Natives of the grasslands that surround the vast great desert, which are very similar to Faerun’s Shaar, they lived in small tribes.
After their failure in the northern Moonsea, the surviving Sileon of Arbon were gathered and transported to the Seraph’s Peak of the Larberius Mountains. There they were forced to march up the hazardous mountainside chained to one another and forced to drag large platforms that housed turreted arbalests until they reached the summit, in the deep snow they were mass executed by means of a firing squad made up of the turreted arbalest they dragged up the mountain. After the execution, their remains were burnt to ashes and cast to the wind – this was the God Emperor’s final order to the Sileon, to die.
Fate of the Weigris:
The Weigris are a race of biped humanoid tigers whose fur, usually an indication of their origin, grows in various shades of color ranging from pure white to orange to pure black. They are highly intelligent and physically strong, they a purely native race to Fenmyr. They are native to the jungles of the Shadowluren Forest though they can adapt to most environments of Fenmyr given a short time.
During the final battle of the Arbon-Jaia War the Weigris revolted against their keepers and battled their way out of the region, many were involved in the siege on the Cathedral of Sol in Verzhul where they assisted their Jaian brethren. By the end of the battle only a third of the enslaved Weigris survived, many of those who survived settled in the region of fallen Jaia and eventually migrate to Pherin once it was established. Those who didn’t stay in the Human controlled regions returned to the native lands of their ancestors and joined the few groups of Weigris that remained in the Shadowluren Forest.
Over the hundred years since the war, the Weigris of the Shadowluren Forest have formed a confederacy that rules the jungle-like portion of the northern Shadowluren Forest. Their political power is limited but they have some connections, one being a trade relation with the Shadowluren Elves. Their confederacy is usually merely referred to as the Weigris Confederacy, but there are some unfriendly reference to it as the, “Beast Union.” Currently the confederacy is attempting peaceful relations with the Shadowluren and Pherin people though are in an active war with the Orcs that live to the north of the forest in the dead lands.
The Weigris Confederacy is lead by the Fieldmaster, a position of power that is based on the Weigris’s skill in personal combat. There are two methods of becoming Fieldmaster, the first being the most simple, which is to have a male heir. The other method to become the Fieldmaster one must challenge the current Fieldmaster to a duel after a vote of no confidence, not to the death in most cases, if the challenger wins, they become the next Fieldmaster but if they lose, they are subject to whatever the Fieldmaster wishes. The current Fieldmaster is Rus Xaen. Besides the Fieldmaster, there are high-ranking generals that serve as advisors on important affairs such as the invasion of the dead lands in an effort to drive the Orcs further north.
The Weigris naturally did not possess ability to tap into the Weave, only through breeding and intensive training from the Arbonians did the race achieve the power to do so. Over the hundred years since the fall of Arbon, the Weigris have incorporated it into their religion, thusly making anyone able to use the Arcane to be a divine vassal. Those who show a natural ability to the Arcane are raised with education on the deities and history of the Weigris and are forced to become servants of the faith. They are referred to as Divineweavers after the process of the hand motions of arcane casting and the prayers associated with divine casting.
The Weigris have only two cities, the capital of Zechialim and the trade city of Yorian. Zechialim is located in the heart of the jungle portion of Shadowluren Forest - it is a common stopping point for travelers going from the west to the east or vice versa of Fenmyr. The city isn’t especially large or heavily occupied but shows a distinctive style of design that differs greatly from the nearby Elves. As to the trade city of Yorian, it lies just within the eastern entrance of the Shadowluren Forest, the city is smaller than Zechialim and often is considered to just be a large town. In Yorian one is able to obtain, some specific jungle plants used for potions and Arcanic spells as well as medicines derived from them. The city’s main trade is that of anti-venom, antidotes, and such as many rare species of poisonous life-forms live in the Shadowluren forest and assassins are known to use these rare poisons to harm their targets.
Fate of the Canine Humanoids (Doogs, Growlies, Rowlies, and Snarls):
The Doogs were a race of Humanoid Canines that lived peacefully for generations alongside the Humans of Fenmyr. Doogs took it upon themselves to act as guardians to the Humans, seeing the Humans as some sort of superior race. Sadly, this would be the downfall of the race, as the God Emperor eventually took notice to their natural strengths and wish to exploit them as one does with a dog breed. The Doogs were forced into a slavery that sadly they did not recognize in time. The Doogs were forced into extinction by the slow sterilization of the male Doogs through generations of controlled breeding. Doogs were not exceptionally long living race to begin with and through the controlled breeding, their lifespan were cut into fractions of what they naturally were in order to have more generations. However, of the Canine Humanoids, they were likely the most gentle and kindhearted.
The Growlies, the war hounds of the Canine Humanoids, were one of the two genetical descendants of the Doogs. They were specifically breed for their loyalty and viciousness, they were smart enough to follow orders but not intelligent enough to question the morals of an order. They were possibly the perfect warrior – easily trained, naturally strong, strong immune system, limited intelligence, and expendable. A typical Growlie would not live past early adulthood as they were usually slain in battle by that time. The final Growlies were deployed in the last portion of the Arbon-Jaia war, the last of their numbers were slain when they were used as a living shield for the God Emperor before his death.
The Rowlies, the worker class of the Canine Humanoids, were one of the two genetical descendants of the Doogs. They were specifically breed for heavy labor and mind-numbing repetitive manual labor. They were longer living than both the Growlies and Doogs and were purposely breed this way in order to get the most out of them. Many Rowlies were surprisingly intelligent compared to the Growlies and found some non-laborious jobs to pursue. At least ninety percent of the Rowlies were wiped out in the war effort through exhaustion and on-job accidents, some were confused for Growlies and slain by the Jaians. A handful of Rowlies are said to have survived the war and are resident of some island out in the Sweet Sea.
The Snarls, the sterile offspring of a Growlie and Rowlie, were a horrible Canine Humanoid to encounter. They were small, furless, and mentally unbalanced due to some sort of birth defect associated with the species. They were used as suicidal berserkers in some early siege battles by the Arbonians during the Arbon-Jaia War, but eventually the Arbonians were forced to outlaw any mating between the Growlies and Rowlies and execute any offspring. Some still were born and ran amok – as a result, they were responsible for a disease that causes a distinctive loss of memory and violent outbursts of rage called Snarls. However, with no more Growlies existing, the Snarls became extinct shortly thereafter.
Though the fate of one specific Growlie is yet to be written...
Fate of the Kobolds:
Two species of Kobolds exist naturally in Fenmyr: The Children of the Drake and the Red Horns, a third species also existed once as well and they were called the Flightless Ruby Wyverns.
The Flightless Ruby Wyverns were the result of crossbreeding of a Child of the Drake and a Red Horn done by the Arbonian government by orders of the God Emperor. This subrace of Kobold was breed into a race of warriors that were trained to ride in the belly-sacs of the Amplusite and Aquirites, subraces of a race of giant beetles. It is assumed they are now mostly extinct as result of the Arbon-Jaia War, a massive number of these Kobolds were used in the northern Moonsea against the resistance the Arbonians encountered.
The Red Horns are murderous creatures that will hunt down and betray anything with them besides their own. They have a collective sense to them as they will work together in nearly all projects if it means their numbers will gain something, yet usually very chaotic and have little in means of a controlled system of government. Physically they look nearly identical to a Child of the Drake besides the obvious red horn on their face. They are usually why Children of the Drake are slain by many, they are confused since folks don't give a shit to look at the faces. They tend to be always evil, though the rare cause of a truly neutral one does happen and usually exile themselves to some hard to reach area. They tend to live in the dead lands, the lands between the grasslands and desert – mostly in caverns where a nesting is built, many a young adventurer has been devoured by a cavern of Red Horns.
The Children of the Drake are creatures that have lived since before the Ark of Quain incident, in what was once a tiny desert that appeared as a freckle on Fenmyr's surface. They are small lizard like creatures said to have Drake's blood in them, and are crafty skilled desert dwellers. They are not a murderous race like the Red Horns, while not specifically “good” they are not specifically “evil” either and are intelligent to do trade with, but the problem is most people do not give them enough time to show this. Sometimes though they carry about small samples of an ore commonly referred to as Black-Iron, a substance similar in composition to steel but easier to work with, that they find near their nests. They often attempt to trade this with desert nomad. However due to this they are a common nuisance to the Lodestone Dwarves and are usually forced to defend themselves or flee. They have a vast kingdom of their kind under the desert. Their kingdom is located near the cursed Mountain of Marlan, part of the Larberius Mountains, a wizard that was once praised in Fenmyr but has gained immortality after the Ark of Quain incident and has been hiding out on the peak of this mountain. No one has been able to approach him but the Children of the Drake that have been trading with him for ages.
Something in common to all the Kobolds is that they are natural enemies of Gnomes, they openly attack many of them on sight. The Children of the Drake’s kingdom is only enterable by the Gnomes due to their size, unless a person has been altered by magic, usually this will cost the Gnome its life though.
