[glow=red,2,300][shadow=red,left,300]A Brief History of the Ilmnfemlian Conflict[/shadow][/glow]
While Pherin historians only document their nation's involvement in this conflict, the Elven nations of the Shadowluren and Sillilnyme Empires have waged a war to erase the Ilmnfeml taint from the face of Fenmyr for centuries. It was during the conflict with Pherin, however, that the war reached its peak in bloodshed. The demon elves have long been a thorn in the eye of the elven empires, as they have proven to be a resourceful lot, constantly fighting to destroy their fairer cousins.
The following timeline describes the major events during, and that led up to, the war with Pherin.

1467 - First known attack by Ilmnfeml elves towards Pherin interests. A caravan was raided and slaughtered, leaving very few survivors. The survivors spoke of pale elves with glowing red eyes and in some cases, wings. The raids continue for 2 months until better guards are stationed with the caravans. Most caravan guards were of mercenery employ. The raids begin to slow down for the next few years. 1473 - Several outlying villages on Pherin's eastern borders are destroyed. The onslaught was stopped by the Pherin Legion and the paladins of Sol's Lumiere. There were few survivors from the villages. One village had only one survivor, a young boy.The border skirmishes will continue for several more years, escalating in intensity. 1479 - A delegation is held after the destruction of an important trading village. The commanders of the Pherin legion and the Sol's Lumiere urge the High Council to go to war. After much argument, the High Lord decides to increase funding for the military, yet, he refuses to declare war until he has better knowledge of the enemy. Pherin begins marshalling its forces and prepares for war.

1481: The following are the major battles of this year.
Battle of Bloody Tears: First full attack by a combined force of Lizardfolk, human barbarians, and Ilmnfeml at the border of the Vorrin Mountains with the 431 Legion. The battle ended as a bloody route for ill-prepared 431st. Forcing them to fall back to the Azan Territory.
Battle of Broken Saints: The Ilmnfemlian alliance had pushed through towards the Tomb of Brother Figado, despite stiff resistance from the Pheric Legions. The 431st Legion, reinforced by the 22nd, and 56th, had futilely bashed themselves against the better-equipped Ilmnfeml forces. It seemed that the Ilmnfeml Alliance's goals were to push through Pherin's territory in order to gain control of several holy sites for some yet unknown purpose. In the end, they could not stem the flow of this fell army and aided the peoples native to the area in evacuation.
Assassin Ridge: The Ilmnfeml forces had pushed toward the Azan Territory in the 7th month of the year. The 431st, 56th, 783rd, and 22nd Legions would try to hold their enemies back in this region. The battle would continue on for several months, to end with the Legions being forced to fall back and evacuate the territory.
During this year, the Ilmnfeml had also taken Kilotharni Tower by means of boat travel from the Trollshank River, while the High Lord had issued out a call to arms for all citizens of Pherin, and had also decreed that all farming, mining, metalurgy, and other such businesses would be converted for war production. All males from the ages of 16-45 were to report to their nearest command to be instated into the military. The High Lord also called back all Seadrakes from various parts of the world. It was during this time that the Seadrakes would be transformed from being merely "Highly trained boat guards" for the Pheric Navy, to a warmachine of respectable size and power. However, it would be a few years before the Legion and Seadrakes would be able to muster the numbers needed to successfully fight the Ilmnfeml Alliance.

The Ilmnfeml Alliance had continued its ruthless blitzkrieg through Pherin lands. Pherin's calls for allies had unfortunately fell on deaf ears, as the elven empires of the Shadowluren and Sililnyme were already engaged in their own front of this war. Like the year previous, this year had seen crippling losses for Pherin, however, it was during this year that Pherin was able to turn the tide of the war and push the Ilmnfeml hordes out of the Pheric lands and mount a counteroffensive. Mainly due to the establishment of several new legions and being able to fully gear the nation for the war in such a short time.
Lost Vestige: After reaching their needed numbers, the Seadrakes had immediately sent the 5th Brigade to the Lost Vestige to spearhead a counteroffensive and to halt the Ilmnfeml advance towards Verzhul and New Pherin. Despite that the Seadrakes were woefully outnumbered, the battle between the two forces had reached an agonizing stalemate where neither side could gain a real advantage over the other. This was brought to an abrupt end when, what Seadrake reports refer to as, "The Crimson-Armored Godkiller" of old Pheric legend had joined in the battle. Wading through the Ilmnfeml forces like a scythe through grain. With the Ilmnfeml's forces thusly crippled from this encounter, the 5th Brigade finished wiping them out and moved on to Lascan to reinforce the Legion units there.
Lascan: The 783rd, 431st, 56th, and 22nd Legions made their last stand at the bordering areas of Lascan. The battle raged on for over a month, causing massive casualties on both sides, bringing the already reduced 431st to the brink of annihilation. It seemed as though the Legions would soon be overtaken, until the 5th Seadrake Brigade showed up to reinforce. With this particular Ilmnfeml invasion force, now surrounded, had no means of escape, ending in victory for Pherin.
Roll the Dice: A common saying during the battle to take Azan. It was used by the members of the 13th and 25th Legions to express the uncertain circumstances with fighting the Ilmnfeml hordes. The Ilmnfeml had a tendency to rely on summoners and warlocks, as well as guerrilla tactics when they were not accompanied by their hordes of human nomads and Lizardfolk mercenaries. As a result, battles ended up as more of a gamble then as a product of planning. However, despite their talents with conjurations, invocations, and tricky tactics, the Ilmnfeml were slowly, but surely wittled down by the Legions' sheer numbers. Which goes to show that sometimes, the best tactic, is the most direct one.
Dead Mountains: In the Winter of this year, the 125th Legion was in for a surprise when they engaged Ilmnfeml Alliance forces at the Vorrin Mountains to take back the Tomb of Brother Figado, and the holy areas around it. Not in that the Ilmnfeml provided as stiff of resistance, but in how short the battle was. The Ilmnfeml forces were ill-prepared for such extremely cold weather in this mountainous region, and as a result, suffered losses before they were even engaged by the Legion. To make matters worse for them, the monks of this order were already engaged in picking them off one at a time in order to take their home back.

1483
After taking the majority of Pherin's territory back, the High Lord and his military advisors had decided to wait for their numbers to build up before starting any more offensives on the Ilmnfeml, as well as trying to understand their motives. After much delegation, it was concluded that the reason the Ilmnfeml had invaded Pherin was to take several holy sites. This couldn't be accomplished through espionage, so the Ilmnfeml took it to war. It seemed that the Ilmnfeml's actions were motivated by their religion. Dedication to their fell god Apollyon. In an act of betrayal to the church of Fiangon and most forms of the Cult of Genarml, the Ilmnfeml had waged a war to gather up artifacts needed, not to ressurect Genarml, but to siphon the dead god's power to Apollyon. They believed that by strengthening their diety, they would, through him, accomplish their goal of genocide of the other elven races. However, they first needed to wipe out the people of Pherin to accomplish all of this.
Retaking Kilotharni: On the 10th month of the year, the Pheric Navy and the 6th Seadrake Brigade mounted an assault on the Kilotharni Tower in order to remove the Ilmnfeml already garrisoned in there. Despite heavy bombardment, the tower was barely damaged, due to it's construction and the magics within it. As a result, the tower had to be taken through a long attrition. To complicate matters, the Ilmnfeml had established a small naval force of their own to defend the tower. Aside from blasting the Ilmnfeml's ships with their Siege Weaponry, the Navy also made intelligent use of the Seadrakes by sending them as small boarding parties to raid their enemies' vessels. Eventually, with enough bombardment, the Navy was able to break an opening in the tower and send the Seadrakes in. The battle was a violent, close range attrition, as with such tight quarters in the tower, it was impossible to send support units and the Seadrakes could only get a small number of men in at a time, resulting in a massacre of the 6th Brigade, leaving only a handful of survivors. After a drawn-out conflict from outside, and from within the tower, the Seadrakes and Navy emerged victorious.

(Alright, it has just come to my attention that, with 25 Seadrake Brigades and 100 separate divisions of the Legion, plus mercenaries and such involved in this conflict, that it would take forever and a day to list everything that would've happened. So, for the sake of just getting this done and getting on with my life, if there's anything that anyone would want to add to this post, then do so. Just follow these rules. 1. must make sense 2. Tell me first so I'll be able to make sure it follows rule 1
Now, with that out of the way, I'm simply gonna put in some major points and a brief description for each year. Once again, if anyone wants to add more details, it's on you.)
1484
The After the battle to retake Kilotharni Tower, the Pherin Military was divided in order to accomplish two objectives. The Legion was sent to aid the Sillilnyme Empire, while Seadrake Brigades were sent eastward with the job of clearing the Ilmnfeml forces out of the Myrawood forests and establishing contact with any surviving wood elves.
The Myrawood Skirmishes: For the Seadrakes in the Myrawood, the inherent danger of the massive forest wasn't just in the Ilmnfeml and their genius use of guerrilla and terror tactics, nor was it solely with the lizardfolk and the human tribes native to that area, but trolls also posed a large threat. Many Seadrakes met their end at the claws or teeth of trolls, sometimes after injuring them enough to effectively kill them. To make matters worse, if they carried torches, the Ilmnfeml would spot them and ambush them, resulting in even more casualties. In order to adapt to this, the Seadrakes had to learn to use acids and use their enemies' tactics against them. Seadrake Field Marshals had become an integral part of Seadrake strategy because of their training to spot and lay ambushes of their own. However, the most genius tactic employed by the Seadrakes was in learning how to use trolls for their ambushes. Using Field Marshal scouts, they would root out Ilmnfeml ambush points. Instead of attacking them head-on, they would instead find ways to lure trolls to that point, then attack in the confusion. While the trolls themselves didn't stand too well against the fire magics of the Ilmnfeml, it gave the Seadrakes the time needed to wipe out the Ilmnfeml patrols. Eventually, after much effort, the Seadrakes contacted the remaining forces of the wood elves and pushed on to drive the Ilmnfeml out of the Myrawood. It is also rumored that, for a time, travelers were finally able to pass through Myrawood without attacks from trolls.
