In the aftermath of the greatest single destructive event in Fenmyrian history, the Ark of Quain erupting with the power of the being Genarml’s rebirth and destruction, the sentient Humanoid races fell into a dark age. In this Dark Age, the races were sent back to a nearly primitive state of existence, the greater powers were feared, and magic especially became a dangerous focal point. Magic once again seen as a dangerous, all encompassing power that was to be feared and in these dark times, a handful of those seemingly capable of wielding it without training it, “the Wild Ones,” abused it by wreaking havoc upon those they saw as inferior. Echoing the fear of wild seemingly limitless and uncontrolled magic, these Wild Ones thrived until this Dark Age began to give way to the next age. Many breathed a sigh of relief as the horrors was over, but the damage was done, the fear of “wild magic” was sown into the hearts of those that could remember the terror of the Ark and the onslaught of the wild ones. Angered by allowing this to occur and sickened by the reaction of those who survived the Ark, those who –knew- what magic was like, Pharis in one of her darkness moments invoked the Veil. Even up to the moment of her death at giving birth to the twin deities, Decil and Cayana, she regretted her actions but unable to reverse it due to the intervention of the Unnamed One who demanded it remain as a symbol to the other deities about overreacting on matters as trivial as the concepts of Humanoids in a single age. This Veil cannot be lifted, but it is slowly fading.
The Veil is an unseen chain-like web that domes Fenmyr (simply beyond the scope of the map is the limit) and this Veil prevents the usage of magics through it – from inside or outside sources. The Veil affects only arcane magic, divine power occurs naturally unless it is directed as arcane. It effectively blocks any teleportation, scrying, long-range summons, and many other things that would go through the Veil, though such magics occur naturally within the enclosed interior of the Veil. Planar teleportation and planar summoning is still possible as there are other “laws” at work there, some due to Divine power. Though this Veil is not without its loopholes, two very well known ones exist – Veluan and the Arbonian Gateways. Veluan, having been created before the Ark, was an exception to the rule of the Veil - it is an extraplanar dimension that has anchors upon the Prime which effectively could allow for long-range teleporations through the Veil if such was desired but the Arch-Mages of the Academe nearly never allow such to occur as they feel an obligation to follow the “laws” of magic. The Arbonian Gateways make use of specific holes in the chain of the Veil, using Solian arcanic lore, the Arbonians were able to construct these gateways to fire at specific times that would occur at just the right moments to allow long-range teleporations at nearly any moment, most of the lore in relation to the construction of the gateways and the chain opening time-windows are considered lost with the fall of Arbon, making the possibility of reconstructing such gateways effectively nigh impossible.
