The Isles of Night are a series of islands, which are located in the Sweet Sea, that sit north a ways off the Pheric Trade Coast. The chain is made up of five islands; Luni, Sollus, Obvion, Midgad, and Igia, these islands are part of the Nightglade government that resides on the largest of the islands, Sollus. This government is seen as an independent nation and has existed, in one form or another, since the early days of Arbon – however, it is currently a territory of Pherin. The Pheric government has seized political control of the surrounding waters of the Isles of Night, however, Pherin has allowed the government of the Isles of Night to continue ruling its own nation, though this is not to say Pherin doesn't have a significant presence on the islands. This presence is so great that a Pheric naval base is located on the island of Igia, it is a training center, referred to as Saints Grave, for the Seadrakes and a restocking station for the Leviathan.
As far as the history of the Isles of Night goes the Nightglade royal family founded their kingdom upon the island of Sollus and ruled until 1440 DR when the royal bloodline died out and the people of the Isles of Night became a council ran government, an oligarchy. A bloody revolt did occur in 1212 DR upon the island of Midgad, where the locals attempted to throw off the yoke of the Nightglade family, this ended in the destruction of the northern half of the island, which sank into the sea. Since that time, the outside nations viewed the Isles of Night as too dangerous a target to conquer – this display of power was from the wild magic of the Sorcerer Lance Woser, advisor to the king. These islands are said to be the home to many sorcerers who have escaped the mainland's fear of their ilk, though in modern times, the pressure from Pherin has resulted in the government of the Isles to begin to force these sorcerers to the smaller islands, such as Obvion and Midgad.
The kings of the Nightglade house are said to be buried on the island of Sollus, though all attempts to locate the tomb have resulted in finding empty ruins scattered about the island. In addition to the missing kings, the sorcerer advisors are said to be buried somewhere as well, many suspect these tombs are located upon Igia or Midgad but no confirmed locations are known. It is said that a number of Arbonian constructs are still located upon the islands, possibly scattered about ruins and such in search of these tombs, these are result from the battle of Luni that occurred during the great war.
Obvion, is the smallest of the five islands, it is barely large enough to support a small colony. It is currently home to sorcerers that were deported from Sollus in effort to appease Pherin and yet prevent harm from befalling the sorcerers. While the island is small, it is regularly patrolled by the Night navy forces and a few guard patrols upon the island itself, in addition to regular supply shipments from Sollus.
Luni, the second smallest of the five islands, was the location of a major battle during the Arbon-Jaian conflict. In the year 1381, the Arbonian naval forces attempted to seize control of the nation of Nightglade, which at that time was still currently ruled by the Nightglade royal family who were allies of Jaia. The Arbonians attempted to besiege the island and make use of a secret tunnel their spies managed to learn of while in the court of the Nightglade , sending many soldiers and constructs against a small defensive force. Despite the odds, this small defensive force of Nights managed to hold off the Arbonian main invasional forces until the Jaian naval forces arrived en mass. While the Arbonians were repelled and a fierce naval battle took place off the coast with the Jaians, an unknown number of constructs managed to enter the tunnels but it is believed most have been destroyed, deactivated, or converted over the years.
Igia, is the third smallest of the five islands, it is to Saints Grave, a Seadrakes training center and restocking station for the Leviathan naval forces. This island was once home to a tribe of non-hostile goblinoids known as Hookednails, but they were eradicated by the Pheric forces upon their initial acquisition of the island. This caused some issues with the local colony of Nights, to such a degree the city of Sollus on Sollus had to issue a new governor and some forces to keep the peace, as a conflict with the Pherics could have resulted in the conquering of the islands.
Midgad, the second largest island is home to many ruins of the Nightglade kingdom as well as several colonies of the Nights, including a sizable sorcerer population. It is the only island to have no normal presence of Pherics, so it has turned into something of a resort location to the Nights who wish to escape the presence of the Pherics. Rumor has it that a resistance faction is forming upon this island, one that wishes to replace the council and attempt to force the Pherics to leave the isles. It is also home to quite a number of valuable natural resources
Sollus, the largest island is the “royal island” or as it was once referred to. It is the home to the capital city, Sollus, which in reality is a fairly small city but has the palace of the Nightglade. This building now serves as the council's place of rule, the Pherics also have setup a very heavy presence in this city to “help” rule and maintain peace. Half a Legion is currently stationed on Sollus. The island is also home to several farms/orchards, including sugarcane and bananas – these feed the colonies of the Night and have recently been being exported in large quantities to Pherin.
These islands are known to see their share of Celestial Leyline attacks.
