The population of Bifrost has near doubled this past fortnight. Many malnutritioned Lifsons, Sindri, and even a handful of outlanders have taken to the Mead Hall and Frozen Kettle Inn. The tale they've had to tell has now spread around the village and to those passing by.
They are refugees of the Lifson port village of Gnarm, along Kvinne's northeastern shores. The village was taken some months back, during the heavy winter snows that seperate Bifrost from Gnarm due to Gnarmir's pass being blocked. The invading force was the barbarian horde of Lifson cousins, known as the Maraudians.
The Maraudians killed few of the Lifsons and Sindri that rose to the defense of the village in the initial attack. Despite their usual nature of trying to kill and destroy everything in sight, they seemed to be more disciplined in the presence of their priests. They imprisoned all those in the village. Some were put to work tending fields, fishing, and cooking for the Maraudian horde, while others were just thrown into the temple to sit and wait. The Maraudians did not kill any during this time of imprisonment, but still harshly beat any who misbehaved, or tried to escape, or just beat some because they were bored and no priest was there to keep the grunts in line. Their true purpose in Gnarm didn't seem to be to harm the Lifsons at all, but instead to collect food and supplies that they regularly sent south by wagon. To where, and for what purpose, remains a mystery.
Freedom came to the refugees a fortnight ago, soon after hearing a number of explosions near the docks, when the village began to tremble as the horde of Maraudians went to battle against foes that entered the village by surprise. The village was retaken with nearly no civilian cassualties, and only a few missing persons from those who fled out that gates. Others were taken aboard the ship owned by these liberators. Those that liberated Gnarm have been identified as Thaine Rynen (aka Refr Refrsaxson), Raven Fynolt, Natali Kelteel, and Theodore Disengulp. They were sent with aid of the Pheric legion under orders from the Emperor himself to liberate the village as discretely as possible.
The legion has now sent contractors and construction crews to repair the enourmous damage done to Gnarm, most of which is creditted to mysterious scorch marks and craters around the village, seemingly made by fireballs.
The refugees offer warning now to those who intend to combat the Maraudians. For over a month, a single Maraudian in black robes stayed within the village, commanding the respect of all other Maraudians, even the priests. More frightening was what waited just beyond the gates, surrounding the village during this seeming leader's stay. A legion of undeath, made up from the corpses of long dead Maraudians, Lifsons, Sindri, Jotun, and many other denizens of Kvinne. The black robed Maruadian left only days before the liberation took place, and left no trace as to where they or their army went.
