As Tamalynn and Cyrus continue their journey away from Dragonsport she lays her head on his back and closes her eyes. She takes several deep breathes, taking in his scent which has come to comfort her. Her mind races through the events that have happened as she tries to understand and deal with them.
First she lost her little brother, a sweet and innocent child, next her father. There was nothing she could have done for her brother, but she could have saved the King and her father. The power that grows in her becomes stronger every day. If only she had been allowed to use it. A tear rolls down her cheek as she thinks of her father, and his lack of faith he had in her. Her sorrow slowly changes into something darker, her innocence has been taken from her and she sees now the cruel world she must learn to survive in. She tightens her hold around Cyrus’s waist, the only one she could always count on, he has always been there for her, and now he is all she has left. Nothing would take him from her.
She opens her eyes and looks around into the darkness, then closes her eyes again, resting against Cyrus. Thoughts spin again in her mind: I am not hiding my power anymore. It was my gift, and I am going to use it. I know that Cyrus will support anything I decide and the others will just have to accept it. I am tired of being told what to do, people controlling my life. No more. I am my own person, and it is me and Cyrus now. He was the only one on my side not to give me away to that prick of a prince. She feels the anger growing again and she takes several deep breathes to clear her mind. As she breaths once again she finds comfort in Cyrus’s scent. Slowly she calms down and drifts to sleep as they continue to ride through the night.
