In Chessenta on the edge of the Adder Swamp lived Zanderlic a powerful wizard. His lust driven hunger for power caused him to make a deal with a black dragon that lived in the swamp. He wanted the dragon to mate with his wife and provide him with a male and female child; in return the dragon could have his wife. The deal was acceptable to the dragon and the children were conceived.
He kept the children hidden in his tower and when they became of age mated them. The two half-dragons had several children. Zanderlic tried to harness the dragon’s magical powers; he studied the children at all ages but was not successful. The wizard lived to be almost a hundred years old, by the time he died; he had created three generation of half-dragons. None of the children had ever left the tower. The eldest went out and explored then came back and reported what he had found. Realizing that they have been held captive and there was so much more to life than what they had, he sent all of his children out into the world and encouraged them to have normal lives.

Xavier Nathos - 1460 – First born to Aeron Nathos and his wife Eriale. Xavier was very pale and thin with black hair and dark brown eyes. His family owned a large mage shop in the city of Daerlun. He worked in the shop with his parents to grow his magic ability, but it was not easy for him, he had to study and practice the spells and incantations for them to work. He married Arveene Greycastle in an arranged marriage. When Arveene was with child they moved to Selgaunt, and Xavier opened a small magic shop. They had two children, the oldest Victoria, and the youngest their son Francis. Here Xavier was able to show his magical ability without having to be under his brother’s shadow. In time, with a lot of hard work he became the Archmage of Selgaunt. He was a very stern and cold man, expecting his wife to be the perfect mother and homemaker, and to teach his daughter to be the same. With good fortune she would marry into one of the elite families in Selgaunt. As for his son Francis, he was to his father’s prodigy.
Arveene Greycastle Nathos - 1465 – 1495 The youngest of five in the noble family of Greycastle. She was born in Cormy in the Capital city of Suzail. She was extraordinarily beautiful, and sought after by most of the noble families in Suzail. Her fair complexion, red hair and emerald green eyes caught the attention of all the young bachelors. Arveene was very talented in the arts, and was a kind and loving person. Her marriage was arranged by her father, and completely against her wishes. But respectfully she did as she was told. Aeron and Eriale Nathos were proud to welcome her into the family knowing she would have such a positive impact on their family. She accepted her new family and formed special bonds with all of them, especially with her brother-in-law, Laris. Arveene spent a lot of hours in the shop helping with the preparation of the spell components and assisting customers. Given Xavier’s cold nature, their relationship was not especially close, and he was jealous of the relationship she had with his family. When Arveene became pregnant, everyone was excited about the baby, but Xavier quickly moved them to Selgaunt to start their own life. Once in Selgaunt, Arveene’s love of life and free spirit was confined to the home where she was not to leave unless on a family outing. There was a full staff at her disposal to see to it she and the children had all that they needed. In 1495 she became very sick and passed away. The local healers could not help her in time, and rumor has it she was poisoned.
Laris Nathos - 1465 - Youngest son to Aeron Nathos and his wife Eriale, and brother to Xavier. Laris was a very handsome and talented boy. His skin was tan and he had blonde hair and blue eyes just like his father. He excelled in everything he did. At the age of ten he started helping his mother and father in the mage shop. The arcane magic was very strong in him like his father. But being the humble person he was, he never showed off his ability or bragged knowing it would bother his brother. When his brother married Arveene, Laris made her feel welcome in the family by teaching her the daily routine of their shop. The natural chemistry between the two was very obvious, but Laris was a man of principle, and tried to respect the vows she and his brother had taken. When Xavier and Arveene announced that they were having a child and moving to Selgaunt, this concerned Laris, but he did not say anything. Instead, he focused on his work, and his magical ability grew at an unbelievable rate. When he heard of Arveene's sickness, he quickly went to Selgaunt to offer his help. When Xavier greeted Laris at the door and saw how strong the draconic heritage was in him, he flew into a rage of jealousy, and refused his brothers help, ordering him to leave and never to return.
Victoria Nathos - 1485 - First born to Xavier and Arveene Nathos in Selgaunt, and older sister to Francis. Victoria was an extremely beautiful child, with red hair and green eyes. Her complexion was soft and fair. As she grew it was obvious she had her mother’s personality, and the house staff fell in love with her as if she were their child. At the age of six, Victoria started showing signs of having magical abilities. This excited her mother, but her father did not share her joy, and Victoria was forbidden to try and enhance her talents. As she got older, a blonde streak formed in the front of her hair. Her father found this most upsetting and did everything he could to cover the blonde. Victoria having her mother’s free spirit would sneak into her father's lab and watch him, paying special attention to what he did and the order it was done in. At night she would come back and recreate what her father had done the day before. It was clear that she had a natural talent and magic was truly a gift given to her. Arveene passed away when Victoria was ten, and left her to be raised by the house staff. Her father took her brother with him each day to work trying to make sure he was exposed to as much magic as possible. Victoria was very lonely and needed something to do to keep her out of trouble. Their cook had been with them since Victoria was three and always helped with her, she had her husband watch Victoria when she wanted to leave the house. They spent a lot of time in the gardens and he taught her how use weapons, especially the longbow. He also allowed her to practice her magic, and she even made a few enchanted weapons that he could sell. When Victoria was nineteen she approached her father about becoming his apprentice. Her father would not hear of it, saying that she did not have the ability, and that her brother Francis was already being groomed for this position. She challenged Francis to a simple test showing their ability to levitate objects. Francis agreed and was only able to lift his father's drinking glass. When Victoria lifted the entire table and all that was on it, her father flew into a rage and ordered her out of his lab, saying she was not to ever step foot in there again. Being angry and hurt by her father's unwillingness to acknowledge her ability, she packed a few of her things and left. She would find a place that she could prove herself and that she was able to become something more than a simple housewife. Wanting no ties to her father or brother she left the Nathos name behind and would be known as Vicky d'Selgaunt from here on out.
Francis Nathos – 1490 – Youngest born to Xavier and Arveene Nathos in Selgaunt and younger brother to Victoria. He has a very pale complexion, black hair and brown eyes. He looks just like his father. As a baby he was not very healthy, and was sick most of the time until he was about two years old. Francis was very quiet and shy. As he grew older, he spent a lot of time reading and drawing. After his mother died he would go every day with his father to the lab. He worked very hard at learning the arcane, but it was not easy for him. He clearly took after his father in magic. Francis was able to learn a few spells, but nothing strong. There were times he would pretend to be sick so he would not have to go with his father to the lab, and would stay home and read. His passion was for the arts like his mother, but his father refused to let him have the time to enjoy it. Being the coward he was, he went along with his father, and did not follow his own desires.
